Will Work for Beer

Andrew John Smith
Seeking a marketing related position in the microbrew industry

A business graduate with a little over 3 years marketing experience. I have contributed to numerous strategic projects, as well as coordinating a wide range of promotional issues.

Over the past 12 months I have been a keen student of the beer industry,  reviewer at my own website and advisor in the 'gourmet' section on epinions.com. I am now seeking an interesting and more challenging role that combines my marketing background and brewing industry enthusiasm to help strengthen the position of a microbrewery.

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile page. What follows is a slightly extended version of my resume. I have provided web links to further information for your convenience. If you would like a copy of my regular resume use this link.

1994 - 1997
IMI Yorkshire Alloys Limited, Leeds, England

Responsible to the Sales Director and Commercial Manager for all areas of marketing and commercial support. One of my significant contributions was the market research into thin-wall condenser tubing that lead to the acquisition of new machinery.

I left IMI in 1997, when the company was closed by the parent following financial losses and an ever decreasing market. Although not aware of it at the time, you could say that it was my marketing reports that helped them make the decision.

No Contact Information currently available due to closure, but personnel records would be available from:

Education

1990 – 1994
Nottingham Trent University, England
BA (honors) Degree in European Business with French
Note at the time of attending the Business Studies and European Business programs were separate but very similar. Now due to the changing European market the course exists merely as Business Studies. It is very similar to the course I studied. Click here for further information.

The degree also included six months in a French University:
1992 – 1993
Institut Universitaire de Technologie 2, Grenoble, France
Diplôme de Commerce
This time was spent following the same business course as the French students, pretty much a repetition of my studies in England, but needless to say the most thorough of French lessons.

1985 – 1990
Balby Carr School, Doncaster, England
4 ‘A’ –Levels: Mathematics, French, German, General Studies.
9 GCSE’s
Note: In England GCSE is the mandatory level of schooling to the age of 16, in my case 9 was the maximum available. 'A'-Level is the optional two year extension, and usually takes the shape of 3 or 4 optional subjects.

Other Activities

I have done a little private marketing work for a local business owner including setting up a database, form letters and "telefaxing". I have also assisted my wife in her previous volunteer work for the local "Child Cornerstone" group, and offered my services at a few Palomino corporate events.

My most recent pastime started out as reviewing beer and became an advisor in that category of epinions.com. , and has since extended to an ongoing education in the brewing industry and techniques, and has developed into my own website. I hope to be able to work towards a Beer Judging qualification in future.

Extensive interest in sports, computing and the internet.
