Miller Genuine Draft Type: Lager ABV: %
My hopes should have vanished when I saw this beer supplied in a clear bottle, but this did not turn out to be an issue. Instead I was immediately disappointed upon pouring. It’s a pale yellowy golden color, extremely clear with good carbonation. There’s a decent initial foam but this quickly dissipates to something that looks more like a pond surface scum.

The nose is pretty much all-malt. It’s got a slight off-fruitiness, slightly grapey and a little vinuous.

The palate is light in body, with a slight smoothness. There’s some carbonation but really not as much as I would expect from this style.

A slight fruity initial flavor is even briefly appealing, with signs of apple, followed by a clean innocent malty-fruit middle. There are faint signs of hop in the finish but the aftertaste is very brief and mild. What does exist of the aftertaste is pretty unpleasant with a sour almost sickening sweetness.

Miller Lite Type: US Light ABV: 4.4%
Very pale golden, almost straw-like, plenty of carbonation, but very little foam. Nose is clean, slight bubble-gum, a little floral aroma suggesting fruitiness without actually jumping out, as well as a some graininess. The tasting is also pretty uneventful and the first few sips pretty much wash right over the palate, showing a little carbonation, but hardly stopping to wipe its feet on the way to the back of the throat. One thing I can certainly say here is that it’s refreshing, but so is a soda water with a squeeze of lime. A few more sips and a little more restraint and concentration help reveal light notes of malt, but are a little too clean, offering no real character, while there is a smooth mellowness and hints of grain around the middle. There’s a little hop in the finish and crispness, but I would not support the brewer’s “pilsner” statement. The aftertaste is very minimal and does not really linger except for a faint memory of malt. It kind of encourages you to drink fast. I rated this one a little higher due to its intention as a low calorie beer, but I say just drink less.
